Kia ora, This week we have started learning about Advent. We learnt about the symbols of Advent and why they are a symbol. There are candles. Purple, purple, pink and purple. The candles mean the weeks that have past or the weeks that are coming up until Christmas and they are lit every Sunday. We learnt about the Jesse tree and that it is a way of preparing for Advent by looking through the stories on Jesus’ family tree. Our create task was to make a Advent scavenger hunt. We had fill in these boxes with pictures and a sentence why they are related to Advent. Here’s my create.

This week we have started learning about advent. We talked about the candles that they light ever Sunday and just talking about everything we know about advent and write it down on a google drawing. I put down that advent is a time leading up to Christmas and there are 4 candles and they are on a wreath. Here’s my google drawing.

Next we made a advent calendar online for ourselfs. We had to put kind things we can do on it. Like opening a door for someone or offering to clean up around the house or helping dinner. Kia ora, The past few weeks for reading we have been reading the boy and the striped pajamas. We had to make a slide show and answer questions about the book. At the very start of making our slides we had to make a prediction on what we think the story was going to be about. Here’s my slide that I made.

Kia Ora, The past weeks we have been looking at saints. We learnt about all saints and all souls and the difference between them. All Souls day is on the first of November and all Saints day is on the second of November. All saints day is a day to remember all the Saints that have died and it is a day to pray for them. And all Souls day is a day to remember the people we know that have died. It is also a day to pray for the souls that are in Purgatory. Our create task was to make a poster talking about all saints and all souls. Here’s what mine looks like.

Kia ora, in the past few weeks for R.E we have been learning about saints. We learnt about becoming a saint and the steps. I made a google drawing on the step by step on what happens when you become a saint and then two saints that we know and what they did to make an impact. Did you know that the person has to wait 5 years after death to even request being a saint. After those 5 years the bishop sends a request to Rome. Then there is a beatification and the person is named blessed. Lastly it is canonization and another miracle has to happen for the person to become a saint then the pope will declare them to be a saint.  Here’s what my poster looks like.

Do you know of any saints and what they have done to become a saint?

Over the past two weeks we have been focusing on making a podcast and imovies. We got a choice to either make a podcast or iMovie. I chose to make a podcast. I was in a group with Zoe and Mikayla. We made our podcast on doping and how it affects your body and health. We talked about athletes that got caught doping and how it affects your mental and physical health. We also talked about what happens when you get caught. Heres my podcast I hope you enjoy.

Kia Ora, This week for reading we have been learning all about the different sports that were held in the ancient Olympics. Our create task was to write a paragraph about what it would be like as a spectator at the Olympics. We had to write what we would see, hear, feel, taste and smell. Kia Ora, This week for R.E we had to make a poem about nature. We have been learning about all the good things God has created in the world. Like plants, animals and nature. We were meant to go out on a nature walk around the school but it was raining so we had to imagine it. I chose to do a dimante poem. Here’s what my poem looks like

Kia Ora, Last week on Tuesday me and some of my class went to Sumner beach to go and learn about sand dunes. Our group got split into two and went with a guide. Our guide started off by asking us what sand dunes are and if they are good or not.  After that we went down to the sand dunes and we tired to make our own mini version of the sand dunes. We learnt that there are lots of bug that live inside of sand dunes.

The guide person told us that he lives on the beach and his neighbours were getting really mad because they couldn’t see the beach because the sand dunes are in the way. So then the council got rid of the sand dune that was in front of there house after that they could see the beach but there was a lot of sand blowing at there house to the point were it broke there tv. The sand dunes are formed because of the wind. There are plants on top of the sand dunes.

We looked at the sand dunes on Sumner beach and there were lots of them. We learnt that they life guards at the beach are putting out these walk ways for us to walk on to get over the sand dunes and not damage them because they are home for bugs. These walk ways just sitting on top of the sand dunes and move to the shape of the sand dune.

What do you know about sand dunes?

Kia Ora. This week for reading we had to make a super hero. We learnt about fresh water and how to keep our waters fresh. Our superhero had to be somehow helping our waters and keeping them fresh. My idea was to make a mermaid, she makes all the rubbish in the ocean disappears. That helps us have fresh water to drink and to swim in. It also helps the animals that live in the ocean stay alive and not having there habitats ruined by us putting our rubbish in the ocean. Here’s what my create looks like.
